42 people died in forest fires in Algeria

In a statement posted to his social media account, President Abdulmecid Tebbun announced that 42 people, including 25 soldiers, who took part in the forest fires in the east of the country, have lost their lives in forest fires in the province of Tizi Vizu and Mountain Becaya.

Tebbun offered his condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers.


It was reported that the death toll rose to 7 during the day and that there were injuries in forest fires that broke out at 36 different points in 18 provinces of Algeria.

Tizi Vizu, located about 100 kilometers east of the Algerian capital, stands out among the areas affected by the fires.

In a written statement from the Algerian Civil Protection Organization, it was stated that the teams were fighting fires at 36 different points in 18 provinces, while 19 of these fires occurred in Tizi Vizu province and the rest in some central regions, mainly in the east.

In his statement to the local press, Interior Minister Kamil Bilcud said they focused on the possibility of sabotage in the simultaneous fires, and those responsible would be exposed as a result of the investigation.
