AA- Egyptian Foreign Minister Samih Shukri met his Syrian counterpart, Faisal al-Mikdad, on ways to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Shukri and Mikdad met in New York for the 76th United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

In a written statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, it was said that Shukri and Mikdad had discussed ways to resolve the crisis in Syria, but no details were given.

According to the statement from the Syrian Foreign Ministry, during the meeting, the developments of the Syrian crisis were discussed and the importance of acting jointly and respecting the territorial integrity of Syria was underlined in order to end.

It was reported that the meeting in question was the first meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries since the Arab League suspended Syria’s membership on October 2, 2011.

It was reported that Mikdad also met with the foreign ministers of Mauritania, Jordan, Oman and Iraq in New York.
