China approves emergency use of Sinovac vaccine in children

According to information from the China Global Television Network (CGTN), Veydong Yin, chairman of Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech, said the Sinovac vaccine has been approved for use in children aged 3 to 17 years old.

Veydong Yin said Sinovac started clinical trials on young people earlier this year, and said the first and second phases have been completed.

Based on preliminary results from Phase I and II clinical trials, the vaccine was said to create immunity in children aged 3 to 17, and most side effects were mild.

The World Health Organization (WHO) approved the emergency use of the new Sinovac vaccine developed by China on June 1.
