The latest research published by the Public Health Agency of England (PHE) found that the Delta variant of Kovid-19 is 60% more contagious than the Alpha variant and the vaccines are less effective against the Delta variant.
PHE pointed out that two doses of the vaccine were much more effective than one dose against the Delta variant.
In a statement made by PHE on May 4, it was announced that the Delta variant has become the most dominant strain in the country, overtaking the Alpha variant.
The Delta variant accounts for over 90% of new Covid-19 cases in the UK. Delta variant cases in the country increased by more than 240% last week. This has been described by some experts as one of the worst possible scenarios.
The number of daily cases of Kovid-19 reached 7 thousand 393, the total number of those who received two doses of the vaccine reached 40 million 886 thousand 878, and the total number of those who received the second dose of the vaccine has reached 28 million 857 thousand 102.
