According to Addis Standard news, National Election Commission chairman Birtukan Mideksa said the vote will take place in September in 54 constituencies in 7 different states.

Mideksa said the delay was caused by security, the inability to print ballots and disruptions in the electoral order.

In the province of Tigray, where the operation against the rebels continues and where a “famine” reigns, it is not yet known when the elections will take place.

The Ethiopian House of People’s Representatives has a total of 547 seats.

The postponement of the elections, which were postponed from August 2020 to June 2021 due to the epidemic of the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19), has met with opposition from the country.

Two strong opposition parties in Oromiya province, where the population is the most populous, have announced that they will not participate in the elections due to the detention of their leaders and pressure on the opposition.

Ethiopia, with a population of around 110 million, consists of 10 provinces and 2 special municipal governments such as Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa.
