Tatar held a press conference after meeting United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Brussels. Recalling the statement by the President of the Commission of the European Union (EU), Ursula von der Leyen after the summit of EU leaders which ended today, “We will never agree to a two-way solution States in Cyprus, “Tarar continued:
“Our message is that we must always act according to the realities of Cyprus. Since there have been two states in Cyprus for 60 years, it has acquired an extraordinary position, and therefore, a model within the framework of the federation which has been negotiated for 50 years is not accepted by both parties. ”
Tatar recalled that all the roadmaps, including the Annan plan, were accepted by the Turkish Cypriots and rejected by the Greeks.
Referring to the efforts of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu during meetings in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, Tatar recalled that the Greek Cypriot side left the table without even accepting political equality at the last point.
“(EU leaders) I invite them to reconsider the realities of Cyprus. If they don’t see it, if they continue to be unfair to Turkey in this way, they shouldn’t think that we will accept a solution. As Turkish Cypriots, we will never be so altruistic. We will never say “yes” to an agreement which would endanger the Cypriot cause, which is a national issue, and which will lead us towards a real great adventure. “
