A Facebook spokesperson told the BBC that the Taliban are considered a terrorist organization under US law and are prohibited from using company services under the policies of dangerous organizations.
The spokesperson said accounts owned or opened in the name of the Taliban, their representatives will be closed and content and messages praising the group will be removed.
After the group quickly took control of Afghanistan, tech companies faced serious questions about how to deal with Taliban-related content.
The spokesperson said that by working with a group of Afghan experts who speak local languages and have knowledge of local contexts, they have been helped to identify and alert to emerging issues on the platform.
Stressing that they do not take decisions on the recognition of governments, the spokesperson stressed that they follow “the authority of the international community”.

The spokesperson said the ruling in question also applies to Instagram and WhatsApp.
The Taliban have been using social media platforms for years to get their message out.
