Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu discussed the latest situation in Afghanistan with his Pakistani counterpart, Qureshi.

According to information provided by the Foreign Ministry, Çavuşoğlu had a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Qureshi.

During the meeting, where the latest situation in Afghanistan was discussed, Çavuşoğlu thanked Qureshi for the support he gave to Turkish citizens who wished to return to Turkey from Afghanistan.

Çavuşoğlu also called Gamini Lakshman Peiris, who has been appointed Sri Lanka’s new foreign minister, to convey his congratulations and best wishes.


As part of the peace agreement reached between the United States and the Taliban in February 2020, the process of withdrawing international forces from Afghanistan began this year.

While the agreement stipulated that foreign forces should not be attacked, it did not stipulate the actions of the Taliban against the Afghan security forces.

Continuing negotiations with the Afghan government in Doha, the Taliban have simultaneously dominated many districts and provincial centers in Afghanistan with heavy attacks since June.
