President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis, ministers and politicians as well as Zülfü Livaneli, a close friend of Theodorakis, attended the ceremony which was held yesterday at the Athens Metropolitan Church for Theodorakis.
Livaneli, who came to the Metropolitan Church with one of the former prime ministers, Yorgo Papandreou, told Hürriyet: “The most regrettable visit to Athens. An Athens without Theodorakis, as if the Acropolis had lost its sanctuary. Mankind has lost a grown-up, “he said. Hundreds of people gathered in front of the church watched the ceremony, which only 120 guests due to the pandemic watched on a giant screen. The crowd shouted “immortal” when Theodorakis’ coffin was removed from the church Margarita, the famous composer’s daughter, did not attend the ceremony.
