From July in the Netherlands, children aged 12 to 17 can be vaccinated against Covid with the consent of their parents. However, since the mother and father of the child living in Groningen were separated, there was a problem with the authorization of vaccination.

The Groningen court ruled that the Dutch boy could be vaccinated, despite his father’s objection.

The court judge said children catch Covid less and less severely than adults, but stressed that they can still stay sick for a long time or that their lungs can be affected by the long-term consequences of the disease.

Stressing that the risk of transmitting the disease to others in the vaccinated is significantly lower than that of the unvaccinated, the judge said that for this reason, the Dutch boy welcomed this choice.

According to the court ruling, a 12-year-old Dutch child can be vaccinated immediately. Because, according to the court, short-term vaccination is more important than waiting for a decision on appeal.
