The Caribbean country of Haiti was rocked by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on Saturday.
According to last-minute AFP developments, the number of people who lost their lives in the earthquake has risen to 724.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which is believed to have occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, is 150 kilometers from the densely populated city of Port-au-Prince.
Prime Minister Ariel Henry has declared a month-long state of emergency for “major damage” in the country.

Hospitals are also said to have suffered significant damage in the earthquake. Jerry Chandler, head of the emergency preparedness agency, noted that hospitals were in emergency and at least three hospitals were full.

For years, Haiti had failed to heal the wounds of the 2010 earthquake, which claimed more than 200,000 lives and damaged the country’s infrastructure to a large extent.
