NATO foreign ministers held an extraordinary meeting with Afghanistan’s agenda via video conference. Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also attended the meeting.

In a statement following the meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said:

The eyes of the world are on Afghanistan. We will no longer allow terrorist organizations to nestle.

We work for evacuations 24 hours a day. Turkey plays a key role. I especially want to thank Turkey, the United States and the United Kingdom for their vital role in ensuring the safety of Kabul airport. We are also grateful to Azerbaijan for its support for airport security.

Turkey has been tasked with protecting the airport in recent years. He also made important contributions. However, conditions have changed a lot.

“AT THIS TIME THE PROBLEM IS NOT SENDING A PLANE, PEOPLE ARE REACHING THIS PLANE”

We are now focusing on the evacuation. Pakistan has a special responsibility. It is both a neighbor of Afghanistan and has ties to the Taliban.

The consensus of all allies is that the Taliban must keep their promise. Those; Safe passage for those who want to leave, without embracing terrorist organizations and respecting women’s rights.

Whatever happens in Afghanistan, it does not weaken NATO in ensuring the security of its members.

Whether we as NATO will establish diplomatic relations with the new administration depends on the behavior of the Taliban and keeping their promises.

The problem right now is not sending planes, it’s the people who are reaching those planes. It is not easy for Afghans in particular to reach and enter the airport.
