After the United States’ decision to withdraw from Afghanistan, the Taliban’s advance continues.
Breaking news reports that the Taliban have captured Kunduz, which is touted as one of Afghanistan’s strategic points.
The Taliban’s statement was confirmed by the AFP correspondent in the region. An AFP reporter shared the information that “the Taliban have taken key points in the city”.
In the statement made by the Taliban, it was stated that the city’s police station, governor’s campus and prison were seized.
The Taliban have captured two provincial capitals since Friday. However, the agencies point out that the fall of Kunduz is Kabul’s biggest defeat in recent times.
Kunduz had already been captured by the Taliban in 2015 and 2016.
By contrast, clashes were reported on the outskirts of Herat to the west and Lashkar Gah and Kandahar to the south.
