In the country, which decreed three days of national mourning from Saturday, many international organizations have also condemned the attack.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the attack, which he described as “despicable”, and called on the international community to increase its support for states fighting terrorism in the region.

In the declaration made by the European Union, it was indicated that this “barbaric” attack was condemned more firmly than ever and its support for Burkina Faso’s fight against terrorism was reiterated. Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara also condemned the attack and gave a message of solidarity with the Burkinabe people.

Burkina Faso is frequently the target of terrorist attacks organized by groups affiliated with al-Qaida operating in the Sahel region.
