In a meeting held in the European Parliament, the immunity of neo-Nazi Golden Dawn MP Ioannis Lagos, who came on the agenda after tearing up the Turkish flag printed on paper and who was sentenced to jail time final, was lifted by 25 votes to 25 votes last month.

Ta Nea reported that Lagos, 47, was brought from Elefterios Venizelos Airport in Greece to the Athens prosecutor’s office under heavy security measures.

The newspaper wrote that Lagos, who was sent back from Belgium to Greece, should be transferred to Domokos high security prison after spending the night at the Athens police headquarters.

In contrast, in October 2020, Greek courts sentenced the leader of the far-right Golden Dawn party, Nikos Mihaloliakos, and his executive staff to 13 years in prison for “leading a criminal organization”. The Court of Appeal ruled that the Golden Dawn is a criminal organization after 454 hearings in the case which lasted more than 5 years.
