A statement came from the Taliban confirming this situation. Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, one of the founders of the Taliban, announced that the “hand cut” sentence for thieves would be reinstated.

Speaking to the Associated Press in Kabul, the country’s capital, Turabi said: “No one can tell us what our laws should be. We will respect Islam and establish our laws according to the Quran.

Turabi stressed that this punishment could not be handed down in stadiums, unlike the Taliban’s first term.

As part of the peace agreement reached between the United States and the Taliban in February 2020, the process of withdrawing international forces from Afghanistan began this year.

While the agreement stipulated not to attack foreign forces, it did not provide for the actions of the Taliban against the Afghan security forces.

Besieging the capital Kabul, the Taliban took control of the city without conflict after President Ashraf Ghani left the country on August 15.
