In the news of the American New York Times, it was claimed that four members of the Saudi team that killed Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul in 2018 received military training in the United States.
The training, delivered under contract approved by the US Department of State, was delivered by the Tier 1 group, an Arkansas-based security firm owned by private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management. In a statement from the Level 1 Group, it was stated that the training, which includes “shooting” and “resisting an attack”, is for defensive purposes. Surveillance and close combat exercises were also included in the training. Khashoggi entered the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul on October 2, 2018 for the marriage process and was unable to leave. It was heard that Khashoggi was killed and dismembered by an execution team of 15 from Arabia, and his body was disposed of. Riyadh claimed the murder was a “stray operation” that took place without the knowledge of the administration. Eight defendants tried in Arabia were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
