With the last American soldier to leave the country, the Taliban turned their attention to Punjshir.

One statement that stirred the world came from insurgents in Pençşir, the only region that the Taliban, who seized power in many parts of the country, including the capital Kabul, could not hold.

The resistance front claimed that the terrorist organization Al-Qaida had joined the Taliban in the operation launched against them.

The following statement was included in the statement made on the Resistance Front’s Twitter account;

‘Al-Qaeda joined the Taliban in fighting the Afghan Resistance Front. The US has withdrawn, history repeats itself.

Promising to defend the region against the Taliban, the insurgents claimed to have killed dozens of Taliban militants who were heading towards Penchir in recent hours.

The leader of the resistance movement gathered in Penjşir includes Yar Dostum, son of Raşid Dostum of Uzbek origin, and Emrullah Salih, who declared himself interim president after President Ghani’s flight.

As part of the peace agreement reached between the United States and the Taliban in February 2020, the process of withdrawing international forces from Afghanistan began this year.

While the agreement stipulated not to attack foreign forces, it did not provide for the actions of the Taliban against the Afghan security forces.

Continuing negotiations with the Afghan government in Doha, the Taliban have simultaneously dominated many districts and provincial centers in Afghanistan with heavy attacks since June.

Besieging the capital Kabul, the Taliban seized control of the city without conflict after President Ashraf Ghani left the country on August 15.
