Turkish-Azerbaijani debate between candidates in Iran

Conservative candidates Muhsin Rızai and İbrahim Reisi called Azerbaijani the language spoken in Iranian Azerbaijan, while moderate presidential candidate Muhsin Mihralizade objected: “There is no Azerbaijani, there is a Turkish language. Rızai said “Long live Azerbaijan” in Turkish in order to draw to his side the 20 million Azeri Turks living in Iran. The other conservative candidate, the president, said: “My Azerbaijani speaking citizens have shown affectionate interest in me. I thank them. Mihralizade opposed his opponents and said: “Azerbaijan is not practiced in Iran. We have Turkish speaking citizens. Care should be taken when using the word “Azerbaijan”.
